Gable House, Cheltenham

We were approached by our clients to design their dream family home on a generous plot in a leafy area of Cheltenham.

The unusually wide plot was previously occupied by an early 20th Century house which was demolished as part of the project. This width enabled us to orient the generous 5 bedroom house across the plot, enabling the whole rear of the house to open up to the garden.

Timber features heavily in the material palette and helps to tie the main house to the secondary structures of pool house and garage. Natural stone was chosen for the ground floor to create a more substantial plinth for the first floor to sit upon. The use of stone throughout the landscaping links the house in to the site and further blurs the boundary between internal and external spaces.

A simple palette of slate, timber & stone
articulates the massing.

Selective use of double-height volumes
create drama in selected interior spaces.
